This paper discusses s。rne basic problems about executive information systems(EIS)，a new kind of computer based information systems．The reasons that the applications of EIS have increased rapidly are analysed first．Its definition and the characters are then discussed．The differences among EIS and other kinds of computer based information systems are also studied．
