The reasoning mechanism of traditional IDSS is rule—based reasoning approach ANN has a lot of advantages not possessed by rule based reasoning．We summarize aeveral differences between the two technologies．Then．the paper compares the advantages and disadvantages of them．In the third section，we introduce some strategies for integrating rule—baesd reasoning and ANN in terms of data connections and functions．A abstract conceptual framework of hybrid IDSS is given out in the fourth section．
