This paper reviews recent research trend in the major fields of economics both in China and around the world. We summarize the major achievements and challenges of economic discipline in mainland China during the past decade, especially highlighting the important role of the Department of Management, NSFC in supporting high-level economic research. To meet the momentous needs of promoting high-quality economic development, realizing the modernization of economic governance system and capacity, we propose the overarching objectives, priority areas of funding and strategy for promoting economic discipline in the new era.
